BEST INDIE POP - WEEK 45

11/7/19

I learned something today, don’t believe everything you see or hear, except when I say that you should listen to today’s 10 Best Indie Pop songs because they really are the best tracks we’ve heard all week. Our curated list will linger around in your head longer than Drake and Kylie Jenner’s romance. In fact, their “love” doesn’t stand a chance when you put them up against today’s featured acts like Daughter’s of Noise!, Keisza, Trippie Redd, Qveen Herby, and more. I could be wrong, but we’ll find out a season too late on KUWTK. For now, let’s move on to the music.

DAUGHTERS OF NOISE! - 2023

Do we really need another female dance-pop duo!? The answer is an obvious YES! Coco Morier and Arama bring a bag full of experience. Coco herself has written for A-listers such as Demi Lovato, Britney Spears, Ellie Goulding … you get the picture … while Arama has had her vocals featured on Major Lazor and TOKiMONSTA’s records. Can you honestly name a more talented duo? I’m sure you could, but Daughter’s of Noise! is a bandwagon you want to jump on ASAP! Listen to their debut single “2023” above.

QVEEN HERBY - PINK CADILLAC

Rapper singer/songwriter Qveen Herby is pushing her way all the way to the rising charts. The eclectic RnB sounds of “Pink Cadillac” channels the 90s era where female power acts like TLC and Sade were at their prime. Some listeners may be distracted by Qveen Herby’s former persona as half of Reddit’s favorite pop duo Karmin, but what they can take away is that this queen has a solid future under her redirected path if listeners can see beyond what they think is an inauthentic act.

MURA MASA - NO HOPE GENERATION

“No Hope Generation” needs to be adapted into a Netflix original series or at least be the school anthem for every high school across America because clearly, no one understands the youth better than producer Mura Masa. Masa shines with his nostalgic vibe and fuzzed vocals … it’s endearing and moves you to give every teenage child a big hug.

BEA MILLER - THAT BITCH

Our lives would be a lie if it weren’t for Bea Miller preaching the truth in her single “That Bitch.” It’s basically my life summed up perfectly. Is it the same for you?

FKA TWIGS - SAD DAY

FKA Twigs continues on a self-reflective journey and she’s taking everyone through every drop of emotion. “Sad Day” comes from a place of pain, yet it took humility to be able to produce not only a single like this but a whole album with a focus on some of the most vulnerable moments a person has experienced. “Sad Day” is taken from FKA Twigs' second studio album Magdalene, out this Friday (November 8th, 2019).

DUA LIPA - DON’T START NOW

Dua Lipa’s music is on the second stage of a post-breakup. You know, this is the stage where you recently broken-hearted people go on a Tinder spree and all-nighters in hopes of dancing the pain away, but you know the moment you lock eyes with your ex you’ll be crawling back into their arms. Why else do you think Lipa sings “If you don’t want to see me dancing with somebody .. don’t show up, don’t come out.” This stage is where you are trying hard to convince yourself you’ve moved on. Keep this mentality up and this track on loud, you’ll eventually be ok.

KIESZA - YOU’RE THE BEST

The build-up in this song is everything. Right as soon as that 38 second mark Kiesza herself grabs you by the hand and swings your soul around making you feel alive and light. Anyone feeling down will instantly feel 1000 times better after hearing “You’re The Best.”

EKALI - BACK TO YOU (FEAT. KIIARA)

With an out of this world sound and feel, Ekali returns with “Back To You.” The single is so smooth that after hearing it you’ll mentally find yourself in another world. And for this track, it makes total sense why the producer would enlist the vocals of pop singer Kiiara.

TRIPPIE REDD - LOVE ME MORE

We’re with YouTuber Davicii75 on this when he said, “Can’t lie, I feel Trippie, he has everything he wants, just can’t find someone who really loves him, so having everything, but don’t having anyone to share with, having love, it’s never completed. I wish he can finds someone who truly deserves him and he deserves. big14 <3

OMAR APOLLO - HIT ME UP (FET. DOMINIC FIKE & KENNY BEATS)

The most fly song to drop this week comes from the collaborative minds of Omar Apollo, Dominic Fike, with Kenny Beats to thank for the production. And with a song like this ain’t nobody going to eff with them.

And that’s a wrap. Thanks for tuning in. We’ll let you in on more indie-pop songs next week.

spotifyBeca Arredondo is easily unamused with all things not related to her interests. On her good days you can catch her avoiding the California sun and glued to her Mac plotting the next big thing. If you happen to run into her on the street and notice her wearing headphones do NOT disturb her. She is not responsible for any possible damage. Aside from the above she's very sweet and perky and responds well to good music and food.
