BEST OF INDIE POP - WEEK 44

10/31/19

Well, well, isn’t this exciting! But first, sorry to those readers who were expecting to see a list of the topmost horrifying songs. We’re covering the best indie-pop songs this week on Halloween day. This means you can play our latest music picks below while getting dressed in your naughty horrifying costume. Heck, you can even use our playlist for your DJ set tonight and take credit for it. We don’t mind. Let’s roll through this because we have yet to find what to wear tonight. Ladies and gents, ghosts and ghouls turn your attention to fresh finds from MXMS, Gabrielle Alpin, Kesha, Lizzo, and more.

MXMS - DEATH ROW

To set the tone for the day, funeral pop duo MXMS delivers a video so chilling it makes your bones hurt just thinking about how many people would actually act out the scenes in “Death Row.” Jeremy Dawson’s character didn’t stand a chance against the psychotic beauty killer portrayed by frontwoman Ariel Levitan.

CONAN GRAY - MANIAC

Conan Gray’s pop bop “Maniac”  is so banging it brings the long-dead exes back to life. One listen to the track and you’ll have your exes crawling towards your house. So lock your doors and get your bat out, you’ll want to be prepared and take a few pointers from the video to fight off your past lovers. Or you could just enjoy the dance floor melodies and swing your hair to the rhythm of the beat.

KESHA - RAISING HELL FEAT. BIG FREEDIA

She’s back! Kesha is back nananananana and I officially belong to the church of Holy-Mess Saint Kesha. Life is bursting through my speakers as Kesha preaches her right to live life as she damn wants to. WIth Big Freedia dropping her signature sound, “Raising Hell” creates a sense of empowerment in all those who listen.

TYLER, THE CREATOR - I THINK

In the pets and animals category of YouTube you’ll find Tyler, The Creator and his beautiful soft palette colored world of “I Think.” Is Tyler trying to send us a subliminal message like perhaps saying that we all have animal instincts inside and so does he?

LIZZO - GOOD AS HELL FEAT. ARIANA GRANDE

Lizzo and Ariana raise the bar on the 2016 smash “Good As Hell.” The two powerhouse songstresses give many reasons to feel good as hell thanks to the energy that invites us all to know our worth. This is something you can dance to, this is something you can sing to, this is something that should be part of our daily routine. It’s a mantra we can recite to ourselves as we put our best foot forward.

GALANTIS & DOLLY PARTON - FAITH FEAT. MR. PROBZ

My one and only complaint is that this song was way too dang short. Galantis’ rework of John Hiatt’s beautiful song “Have A Little Faith In Me” is exactly what we all needed to hear, and quite frankly, I couldn’t imagine anyone else other than Dolly Parton delivering such a warm message. Between Mr. Probz, Parton, and Galantis our world briefly feels slightly better.

STEVE AOKI & BASSJACKERS - I WANNA RAVE

Steve Aoki and Bassjackers unite to deliver a big room banger that will leave heads rumbling to the thunderous bass lines. “I Wanna Rave” forcefully throws itself upon your ears leaving you wrecked but with huge smile on your face.

BROOKE CANDY - CUM FEAT. IGGY AZALEA

Nothing in life will have you feeling filthy like listening to Brooke Candy’s “Cum.”

GABRIELLE ALPIN - LIKE YOU SAY YOU DO

Gabrielle Alpin is a breath of fresh air. Her genuine words and honest take on life are more than welcome especially in a world where the line between reality and expectations is blurred. The artist mentioned that “Like You Say You Do” was “inspired by how differently you can portray your life and relationships on social media compared to real life. How you can say one thing online, and not follow it through in your real life.”

MEDUZA, BECKY HILL, GOODBOYS - LOSE CONTROL

We wrap up the list with the trifecta. “Lose Control” is a stunning piece that adds brightness to the colors of fall. With Meduza, Becky Hill, and Good Boys all contributing their greatest assets, the single takes listeners into an iridescent journey of melodic synths that boost your mood.

Enjoy your spooktacular day. See you next week with more audible treats!

Beca Arredondo is easily unamused with all things not related to her interests. On her good days you can catch her avoiding the California sun and glued to her Mac plotting the next big thing. If you happen to run into her on the street and notice her wearing headphones do NOT disturb her. She is not responsible for any possible damage. Aside from the above she's very sweet and perky and responds well to good music and food.
