BEST OF INDIE POP - WEEK 6

2/6/19

Because the biggest music award show that is happening this Sunday is going through some technical difficulties, we figured why not host our own here today? Instead of the Best of Indie Pop Songs this week we will call it the best of what the Grammy’s should have nominated. It’s our column so why not? The artists below are just as talented as the ones who are running for a golden trophy. Enjoy and spread the word on today’s top Indie Pop Songs and don’t forget to tune in every day to our Weekly Chart on Spotify.

BROODS - TOO PROUD

Broods has recently dropped their newest album Don’t Feed The Pop Monster,  but as we can clearly hear in their single”Too Proud” the single is a pop gem that feeds our heart, mind, and soul with soaring chords and vocals. The accompanying video is a message to those struggling with mental health issues to seek the help needed. You are not alone. Call someone, call us.

TORO Y MOI - ORDINARY PLEASURE

“Ordinary Pleasure” by Toro y Moi is anything but ordinary, but that is exactly what we’ve come to expect from the everything but ordinary artist.  The single has rhythm, it has funk, it has a groovy beat, nothing can make this better other than perhaps adding a cowbell somewhere in the mix.

NINA NESBITT - LOVE LETTER

Nina Nesbitt is on fire with her latest releases. Today, her single “Love Letter” comes at us like a charging Spanish bull ready to destroy its attacker. Is your heart pumping fast? Are your hands sweaty? Are you just excited about using her lyrics on the pathetic ex who was never good enough for you?

BLACK EYED PEAS - 4EVER FEAT ESTHERO

The Black Eyed Peas are very much alive and well and back with the delicious single “4Ever.” Sounding much like a cross of Bossanova and the hip hop that jump-started their career, the group has created a soothing tune that reminds each and every one of us that they still have grit in the game. Hope you dig the track as much as we do.

GALANTIS - BONES FEAT. ONE REPUBLIC

Producer duo can pretty much work with anyone and sound great, but is this collaboration really legal? We have two legendary acts together working on what is sure to be a huge hit song this summer. It has the oooh’s and the aaah’s and meee’s and just the right amount of clapping and snapping to united a separated country. Ok, perhaps uniting a country is an exaggeration, but this is the shiiiizzz.

LANY - THICK & THIN

If Lany were to whisper the ABC’s in my ear I would be insta pregnant. His voice is everything, there is something naughty behind those pipes that make me want to ride with him on the trunk of a beemer down highway 1. “Thick & Thin” forms part of Lany’s second album Malibu Nights, out now.

LADY LESHURR - HORRID

Time and time again Lady Leshurr shows the world her level of bad a$$ery. In just a short 48 hours, that’s like 2 blinks of an eye to all us mortals, the rapper executed on the murderous freestyle  “Horrid.” It’s a mouthful for sure, one that you’ll appreciate spinning a few times.

21 SAVAGE - A LOT FEAT J. COLE

21 Savage’s single “A Lot” sounds a lot like Sunday mornings during confession. It’s always the same thing: “How times did you cheat? A lot. How many times did you lie? A lot. How many times did you kill? A lot.“ Someone needs to tell Savage that with 10 hail marys and 5 our fathers, his sins are cleansed and conscious is cleared.

CAGE THE ELEPHANT - READY TO LET GO

Cage The Elephant keeps things .. ummm a heck of a lot more interesting than what I was expecting on this dreary Wednesday. The dark imagery surrounding the feel of the band’s single “Ready To Let Go” is a direct correlation of heartwrenching truth and reality of moving on from a serious relationship. The relationship here is that of lead singer Matt Shultz and  ex wife. Cheers to better days Matt and Juliette. Hugs to you all, but thank you for the amazeballs track!

Our last and final song comes in form of fifteen additional songs from our Best Indie Pop Daily Playlist on Spotify. Say what!!!??!! You heard right. We have more music for you waiting down below. Click play and enjoy. We’ll be back with more pop gems next week.

Beca Arredondo is easily unamused with all things not related to her interests. On her good days you can catch her avoiding the California sun and glued to her Mac plotting the next big thing. If you happen to run into her on the street and notice her wearing headphones do NOT disturb her. She is not responsible for any possible damage. Aside from the above she's very sweet and perky and responds well to good music and food.
