BEST INDIE POP SONGS - WEEK 47

11/21/19

What better way to commemorate this day than to showcase 10 of the best and hottest indie-pop tunes? What exactly are we celebrating? Anything really. Me personally I’m just happy to hear that Akon will be running for president come 2024. Heck yeah, one nation under Akon screaming “Smack that” as the family gathers around the dinner table. Until the day I can flood the voting polls with my ballots in hand comes, I’ll be right here in the same exact position sipping on my tea and filtering the internet for pop gems to present to you. Speaking of which, let’s get to today’s featured artists. Drum roll please ……

PRINCESS NOKIA - BALENCIAGA

Princess Nokia is one fly lady. In “Balenciaga” she mentions how b**ches be jealous and I have a feeling that I know exactly why. Look at her move. She’s got mad rhythm and moves like the wind. No wonder she can pull off Sketchers as if they were Balenciaga’s. I think we all can tear a page from her book and walk a little taller after listening to this song.

GLASS ANIMALS - TOKYO DRIFTING (WITH DENZEL CURRY)

Fresh flexin is all we hear and Denzel Curry seems to think so too. When approached by Glass Animals for “Tokyo Drifting” he jumped on the project and together these two acts are proving that there are more styles than the cookie-cutter kind that people are used to hearing. Please, please put this on blast when you’re cruising down the road.

GABRIELLE ALPIN & HANNAH GRACE - ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS

I’m afraid it’s that time of year. You know where the best of other people get the scrooge out in us. It’s Christmas from here on in to the end of December. But you know what, if Christmas sounds similar to Gabrielle Alpin and Hannah Grace’s rendition of Mariah Carey’s “ All I Want For Christmas” then bring it Santa! I could do this season all year long.

BULOW - BOYS WILL BE BOYS

Bulow preaches the truth on “Boys Will Be Boys.” Boys are good, really good at breaking hearts, the same can be said about girls, but we’re referring to the male gender at the moment and it feels good. It feels good to belt out our emotions and feelings towards the ones who make us cry. Thanks bulow for pretty much saving the energy of having to scream “Screw you!” to the future poor dude who might walk past me.

HAIM - HALLELUJAH

At first, I was afraid to admit I might actually be a fan of Haim. But I have to give credit where credit is deserved. Haim has undoubtedly produced a gem! I have been converted and am now a faithful believer of Este, Danielle, and Alana.

QUIN, 6LACK - MUSHROOM CHOCOLATE

What the heck does a fungus and my favorite food group (chocolate) have anything to do with Quin and 6lack? I have no idea, someone please fill me in. I tried dipping my portabello in some melted m&m’s but it didn’t taste so good.

OH WONDER - I WISH I NEVER MET YOU

Oh Wonder has crafted the perfect song to send to someone you hate. Go ahead and tear the lyrics off of “I Wish I Never Met You” and send it to that person. I did, and it felt good. So all I can say is I am so glad I met Oh Wonder and heard this track. With a lighthearted beat, you’ll even giggle a bit as you think of the many people you could send this song to.

TERROR JR. - STRAIGHT FROM THE BOTTLE

So I guessed I should have placed this song above Oh Wonders “I Wish I Never Met You” because clearly, this is phase 1 or 2 after a breakup. Seems like the only cure is to drink straight from the bottle like Terror Jr suggests in their single “Straight From The Bottle.” Grab yourself a 40 ouncer and drink responsibly.

BAS - NIRVANA FT. FALCONS & B LEWIS

I added this one because we could all use some chill vibes on this hectic life. I know you know what I’m talking about. Thankfully Bas along with Falcons and B Lewis deliver a jam so smooth it will slow your racing heart down a notch and help you unwind. Do you and those around you who can listen to your music a favor and follow Bas, the guy has a pretty stellar list of tracks waiting to be heard.

JADEN - AGAIN

We wrap up this list with a think piece from Jaden Smith … or wait, is it a headscratcher? Anyways. I’m sure a lot of thoughts will flow through your head as you watch Jaden be Jaden in “Again.” Whatever questions pop into your head feel free to share them with us. I really do enjoy reading your comments.

Thanks for stopping by and checking out our latest picks of the best indie-pop songs. We’ll be back next week as always with more gems. xoxo

Beca Arredondo is easily unamused with all things not related to her interests. On her good days you can catch her avoiding the California sun and glued to her Mac plotting the next big thing. If you happen to run into her on the street and notice her wearing headphones do NOT disturb her. She is not responsible for any possible damage. Aside from the above she's very sweet and perky and responds well to good music and food.
